FAQs![]() We love your mom’s heart! Over the years, we see that a child who can read but doesn’t finds reading too laborious. He is typically a slow reader who works too hard to pull words off the page. He fatigues out after just a few pages. Brain-Connected Even though your son may pass grade level tests, his reading speed may be too slow for the amount of reading his homework requires. A child who reads slowly can take two to three times longer than his classmates to finish assignments. The good news is that his brain will quickly learn to read faster when it is repeatedly asked to do so. Try Brain-Connected Fluency is reading at a natural ,“talking” speed with intonation (prosody). It’s not too slow, not too fast, or choppy—it’s you child's “storyteller’s” voice. Fluent readers pay attention to punctuation. For example, your child’s voice should go up for question marks and stop briefly for periods. Great question! Brain-Ready Reading contains cognitive reading games that help your child quickly progress from knowing alphabet letter sounds and shapes to blending them and reading words. Brain-Connected Reading™ contains cognitive reading games and fluency techniques to help your child read accurately and faster so homework and schoolwork is easier. Research shows that students must read at least 150 words-per-minute (wpm) by 6th grade to enjoy academic success. Go to the Brain-Connected Reading™, Level 2 website page and have your child take the “Quick Test” to see if his reading speed is fast enough to be successful. Short words like was and that are tricky because your child’s brain cannot create a “picture” of a that or a was. But words like spaghetti and necklace are easier to remember because they can be visualized.
Be patient with your child’s brain. Help her reread the tricky words until her brain remembers them. With enough practice, they will soon roll off your daughter’s tongue! Some kids read at a learning state that requires them to work very hard to read some of the words on a page. They look at the beginning of a word and guess at words because they are tiring out. These kids are working too hard to make sense of the words on the page. Reading is still too much effort. Our easy Backblasting™ technique and other word analysis games will help your child’s brain analyze, read and remember words so he won't fatigue out so fast and resort to guessing at words. When your child is fluent, his brain is reading automatically. This leaves lots of energy and "thinking space" for comprehension—and comprehension is THE entire purpose for reading. With fluent reading, your child’s brain is freed up to remember and think about what he is reading. Fluent reading makes reading fun! |
